Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old (or have parental consent if younger), hold a valid passport, and obtain the appropriate Nepal visa. Participants should have a genuine interest in cultural exchange and community engagement, along with a positive and flexible attitude. A basic level of English is recommended for communication. Applicants should be physically and mentally fit for their chosen program and have comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Some programs may also require additional documents, such as a CV, motivation letter, or academic transcripts. No previous volunteering or international travel experience is required.

A typical day with Gap Year Nepal combines meaningful volunteering with cultural immersion and personal growth. Your day begins with breakfast at your host family or volunteer accommodation before heading to your placement. Depending on your program, you'll spend the day supporting local schools, healthcare centers, community projects, childcare facilities, or environmental initiatives alongside local professionals. After lunch, you'll continue your activities or take part in community interactions and skill-building experiences. Evenings are free to relax, explore the local area, connect with fellow participants, learn about Nepali culture, or spend time with your host family. Each day offers the opportunity to make a positive impact while building lasting friendships and gaining a deeper understanding of Nepal and its people.

At Gap Year Nepal, we believe your accommodation is an important part of your cultural experience. Depending on your program, you will stay with a carefully selected local host family or in a comfortable volunteer house, providing a safe, welcoming, and authentic environment. During your first few days, you will typically stay in Kathmandu for orientation before transferring to your program accommodation.

Rooms are clean, comfortable, and usually shared with another participant of the same gender unless a private room is requested. Most accommodations include Wi-Fi, essential amenities, and home-cooked Nepali meals, giving you an authentic experience of local hospitality and daily life. Living with local families or fellow volunteers offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Nepalese culture, build meaningful friendships, and feel at home throughout your stay. Our local team is always available to support your comfort, safety, and well-being.
