About Us
PSD Nepal (Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal) is a registered non-profit organization established in 2002, working in climate action, public health, environmental conservation, education, and sustainable community development. Through partnerships with universities, research institutions, government agencies, and international organizations, PSD Nepal conducts interdisciplinary research that supports evidence-based policies and community resilience.
The Climate Change, Health & Research Internship offers students, researchers, and early-career professionals the opportunity to gain practical experience at the intersection of climate change, environmental science, and public health. Interns contribute to ongoing research projects examining issues such as air pollution, climate-related health risks, environmental monitoring, disaster resilience, water and sanitation, and community adaptation.
Depending on current projects, interns may assist with literature reviews, field surveys, environmental monitoring, GIS mapping, data management, statistical analysis, report writing, scientific publications, and stakeholder engagement. Placements combine office-based research with field experience, enabling participants to understand how scientific evidence informs policy, supports decision-making, and strengthens community resilience.

Requirements
Applicants should have an interest in climate change, public health, environmental science, or sustainable development. Current university students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals are welcome.
Preferred academic backgrounds include Public Health, Environmental Science, Medicine, Nursing, Epidemiology, Geography, GIS, Statistics, Social Sciences, Climate Science, International Development, and related fields.
Strong written English, basic computer skills, a willingness to learn, adaptability, and respect for local cultures are essential. Previous research experience is beneficial but not required. Some projects may involve fieldwork, including walking in rural communities and participating in community-based research activities.
Volunteer experience
A typical day begins with project planning and meetings with PSD Nepal staff or research supervisors. Depending on the project, interns may conduct literature reviews, prepare research tools, analyze data, support environmental monitoring, participate in community surveys, assist with GIS mapping, or attend stakeholder meetings.
Field visits may involve collecting environmental or health data, interviewing community members, observing project implementation, or supporting awareness programs. Afternoons are often dedicated to data management, report writing, scientific discussions, and planning future activities. Evenings are free to relax, explore Kathmandu, or spend time with fellow interns and volunteers.
Every internship is tailored to ongoing research projects and the intern's academic background, providing a unique combination of research, field experience, and professional development.
The internship fee covers accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation, supervision, research coordination, office facilities, field support, local staff assistance, and administrative costs.

Interns stay with carefully selected host families or in shared volunteer accommodation, depending on their placement location. Accommodation is safe, clean, and comfortable, with shared rooms as the standard option and private rooms available upon request. Basic facilities include a bed, electricity, bathroom access, and internet in most urban areas.
Staying with a local host family provides a valuable cultural experience and the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of everyday life in Nepal.
Three nutritious meals are provided each day throughout your internship. Meals typically include traditional Nepali dishes such as Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables, and curry), chapati, noodles, seasonal vegetables, fruit, eggs, and tea.
Vegetarian meals are always available, and vegan or other dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice.
Outside internship hours, participants have plenty of opportunities to explore Nepal's rich natural and cultural heritage. PSD Nepal staff are happy to help interns plan safe and responsible weekend trips and activities throughout the country.
