Why choose us?

Nestled in the rural county of Pérez Zeledón, around three hours south of San José, La Gran Vista Agricultural Ecological Farm offers breathtaking views of El Valle de General and Costa Rica's highest peak, Mount Chirripó. Surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, the farm provides a peaceful setting where volunteers can experience sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and authentic rural life in Costa Rica.

Requirements

- Bring a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team

- Be in good physical health, as many activities involve manual and outdoor work

- Inform the team in advance of any dietary requirements or food allergies so appropriate meal arrangements can be made

A typical day at La Gran Vista is flexible and may vary depending on the volunteer, group, and planned activities.

- 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Volunteer activities
- 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Lunch and relaxation
- 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM – Volunteer activities

This schedule is intended as a general guide. We keep our programme flexible to ensure volunteers have plenty of time to relax, enjoy the farm, and explore the surrounding area. Depending on the group, additional free time can also be arranged in the afternoons.

US$69 per person per day

Volunteers stay with the La Gran Vista family in a rustic cabin, offering a welcoming and authentic farm experience.

Accommodation options include:

- Four private rooms
- Two spacious shared dormitories
- A dedicated camping area with space for six or more people (camping tents can be set up on site)

Meals are freshly prepared by the host family and feature simple, traditional Costa Rican cuisine.

Meals may include:

- Rice and beans
- Meat or eggs
- Fresh vegetables and salad
- Sopa Negra (traditional black bean soup)
- Pasta dishes
- Olla de Carne (traditional Costa Rican beef and vegetable stew)

Vegetarian meals and dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.

During your free time, there are plenty of opportunities to relax and explore the natural beauty of the surrounding area. You can:

- Relax in a hammock and enjoy the peaceful countryside
- Join organised trips to Dominical Beach
- Visit nearby waterfalls and enjoy a refreshing swim
- Play football with local community members on the nearby pitch
- Explore the forest and discover an Indigenous cemetery
- Look for local wildlife, including sloths
- Take a scenic walk to a community waterfall located about 30 minutes from the project
- Experience the local culture and spend time with the community
