I’m very grateful for the people I met and the experiences we shared, from cooking and eating together to learning Vietnamese as a group. Communication was sometimes difficult when problems came up or plans changed, mainly because of the language barrier, and as a foreign volunteer it could feel isolating when conversations weren’t translated. Still, I eventually felt comfortable asking for help. I learned a lot—Vietnamese, teaching, leadership, local culture, even WordPress—and I think being patient and offering guidance to foreign volunteers would really improve the program. I loved Nui Tuong’s atmosphere, community, food, and environment, and after three months I’m truly sad to return to America.

I loved the garden, nature, joyful kids, great food and drinks, and especially the people I lived with. At first I felt a bit unwelcome because no one greeted me, and I didn’t know the others had just arrived that day. I learned a lot—teaching kids without a shared language, being more proactive, expressing my needs, cooking and cleaning Vietnamese-style, some Vietnamese words, community living, and motorbike driving. Memorable moments include yoga class, washing dishes on the floor, recording languages with the kids, visiting a small farm, and a fun cocktail night. The task plan was helpful, and clearer orientation and weekly check-ins would improve the program. I’d love to come back because the nature and people are so nice.

“Nui Tuong is a beautiful place and one I'll miss immensely. I volunteered here for a month, helping both in the garden and teaching. It was a challenge adjusting to the culture and the language barrier, but it was well worth it for the incredible experience. The location itself is serene and peaceful. The community is friendly and inviting. The local kids are hilarious and fun to teach. My time at Nui Tuong will be treasured both for giving me a unique Vietnamese experience and for the variety of amazing people I got to meet. I would love to come back in the future.”

“Nui Tuong Organization is an amazing place doing amazing work. I volunteered here for 3 weeks and it has been so much fun and so meaningful to spend time with the students here, as well as experience jungle life with so much beauty surrounding. It is in a somewhat remote area with lots of outdoor activities and sightseeing opportunities nearby. If you want to enjoy an authentic, environmentally friendly stay with an opportunity to connect with local children and volunteers from around the world, this is the place for you!”

“I visited Nui Tuong as a volunteer for a bit more than a month. It was a great experience in a place that has everything to be paradise. It is situated next to Cat Tien National park so the view from the village is amazing and you get to wake up to this view and there is an amazing yoga room for sunrise yoga. As a volunteer it was an intense but super interesting experience to integrate in this project. Thanks to miss Hang and all the lovely people I met here.”
