Volunteer Stories from Hout Bay Children’s Programme

August 7, 2026 • @dmin

I spent 6 incredible weeks at the Hout Bay Children’s Programme. The children are smiley, cuddly, playful, jovial and just amazing. I really enjoyed my time at this volunteer project, where I was able to help the children with their homework, play with them, whether it was football or cards, read to them or even assist a school teacher. It was an unforgettable, magical experience that I would recommend to anyone who has even a little time and love to share. Pure happiness and thank you to them who brought me so much! I will miss them enormously!”

I had a great time at the After Care in Hout Bay project. The people are so kind and friendly! I felt so connected with the children. We did homework, played games and drawn a lot. I am so thankful for this two weeks.

I would sincerely say that volunteering is a life shift step that everyone interested on something else other than his own world, must do in life. I had a mind-blowing time during my stay in Cape Town and memories that will last forever, that’s a legacy for both the people and the volunteer that nothings else in regular studies or professional career could overcome.

Volunteering at the kindergarden was a deeply rewarding experience — the joy and love from the children made every day meaningful. The afternoon program was equally special, offering a chance to support the kids with their homework and see their confidence grow. It was a privilege to be part of both spaces where care, learning, and community come together. I’ll carry these memories with me always.
