About Us
We are a not-for-profit non-governmental grassroots organisation registered as a not-for-profit company and based in Greece, composed of a dedicated group of people driven by our desire to protect the environment through specific courses of action such as environmental conservation projects and scientific research targeted towards sustainable development. Key to this object is the achievement of environmental justice in a given area and the conservation of biological diversity.
Our organisation is governed by a board of directors. A voluntary international advisory board provides advice on various issues. Our organisation is operated primarily by volunteers and a smaller number of members of the organisation.
We achieve our goals by providing solutions to local environmental problems through targeted conservation actions, empowerment and education of local communities to protect their environment, relevant legal actions and the provision of viable sustainable economic alternatives to human practices that are environmentally destructive. The logo of our organisation is a symbolic representation of the focus of the organisation in conserving and restoring organisms and ecosystems that support them that are either relatively large in size, great in age for their species or both and specifically large sized individuals particularly within each of three ecological groups highly threatened by human interference: Cetaceans, terrestrial herbivores and large sized and/or aged floral organisms.
Program at a glance
Why choose us?
We are an independent grassroots local organization. We dictate our own policies and do work independently of interest groups, including corporate and political interests. Help us achieve our goal by participating.
Requirements
People need to agree with the terms and conditions of our program to apply first.
Volunteer selection process:
We operate on a non-discriminatory policy basis. People of all ages 18 or above can potentially join the program provided they can show the relevant commitment and ethos. We try our best to fit what we do to the individual volunteer. We don’t separate people based on gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or religious belief.
Commitment to our cause is an essential characteristic of any volunteer. For us, the ideal volunteer is a person that can turn a problem into a success.
We have a two-stage application process whereby, following the first stage of the application process of sending the form, a second stage follows where a live interview is held via Skype, telephone or in person.
Volunteer experience
A volunteer will wake up early in the morning to go monitoring wildlife in small groups of 2-4 people, typically. Then, returning to the station, data analysis and curation follows. In the evening, personal time and also work in the demonstration farm that surrounds the station.

N/A
In the summer, we are close to some great beaches at walking distance. The island has a few restaurants and cafes. A sports facility for football and basketball at no extra cost (public). People sometimes like to go to other islands, but the area is isolated, so this is not a base for island hopping. We have high-speed wireless internet. Great hiking and walking routes on the island we are based on.
