About Us

Tanzania Youth Coalition (TYC) is a consortium of 120 youth Non-Governmental Organizations, 249 Youth Enterprise Groups (YEGs), and hundreds of individual young people across Tanzania. TYC is officially registered under the NGO Act No. 24 of 2002 with registration number 00NGO/00598.

The organization’s main goal is to ensure that young people’s voices are represented and heard at all policy-making levels, including local, national, and international platforms. TYC achieves this by facilitating information sharing and knowledge exchange, promoting policy engagement and advocacy, strengthening youth capacity, and building networks among stakeholders. Through these efforts, TYC empowers young people to become active contributors to sustainable development.

TYC’s vision is to see a Tanzania where vibrant and proactive youth are at the forefront of sustainable development as empowered agents of change. Its mission is to build the capacity of young people, raise awareness about sustainable development, and promote meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes.

A typical day with Tanzania Youth Coalition (TYC) combines community engagement, learning, and cultural exchange. Volunteers work on agreed days and hours as outlined in their Volunteer Agreement, with schedules depending on the specific project and community needs.

At the beginning of their placement, volunteers receive an orientation and a work plan that guides their activities and responsibilities. Depending on the program, volunteers may support community outreach, youth empowerment activities, environmental conservation projects, awareness campaigns, or sustainable agriculture initiatives.

Beyond project work, volunteers are encouraged to experience everyday life within the community, interact with local people, learn about Tanzanian culture, and participate in community activities and events. This provides a valuable opportunity for personal growth, skill development, cultural exchange, and making a meaningful contribution to positive community change.

US$200 for 2 weeks and US$1,200 for 3 months.

Volunteers can choose the type of accommodation that best suits their comfort, preferences, and budget. Available options include staying with a host family, an Airbnb, or a hostel. Each option offers a different experience and level of comfort, allowing volunteers to select the arrangement that works best for them.

Accommodation costs vary depending on the chosen option and length of stay. TYC supports volunteers in finding safe, comfortable, and suitable accommodation arrangements.

Volunteers will be asked to complete a dietary preference form to provide information about their food requirements, including whether they are vegetarian, vegan, have food allergies, religious dietary restrictions, or any other specific dietary needs.

This information helps TYC and host families or accommodation providers make appropriate meal arrangements, ensuring volunteers receive safe, healthy, and suitable meals throughout their stay.

Volunteers will have plenty of opportunities to experience authentic Tanzanian life during their free time. They will be encouraged to interact with local communities, participate in cultural events, and learn about Tanzanian traditions, customs, and everyday life. Volunteers can also practice and learn basic Swahili through conversations with local people, helping them communicate more effectively, build meaningful connections, and gain a deeper understanding of Tanzanian culture and community life. These cultural experiences will allow volunteers to create lasting memories and develop a stronger connection with the people and places they encounter during their stay in Tanzania.
