About Us
Gilys Children Foundation is a community-based organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children through education, childcare, and community development programs in Tanzania. Founded with the mission of creating a safe and supportive environment for children, the organization operates daycare and preschool programs that provide early childhood education, care, and daily support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, Gilys Children Foundation works to improve the lives of children by promoting education, health, creativity, and personal development. Volunteer experience
A typical day begins at 07:00 AM with breakfast at the volunteer hostel. After breakfast, volunteers prepare for the day and travel to the daycare center. By 08:30 AM, volunteers arrive at the daycare and preschool to join morning activities and assist teachers in welcoming the children.
From 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM, volunteers support classroom activities such as teaching basic English, storytelling, singing, games, drawing, and other creative learning activities. Lunch and a short break are usually provided around 01:00 PM.
In the afternoon, volunteers continue assisting with educational activities, outdoor games, childcare support, and organizing learning materials. The program activities finish at 02:30 PM, after which volunteers return to the hostel for relaxation, cultural exchange, or free time to explore the community and nearby attractions.

Meals are prepared locally and are designed to give volunteers a taste of Tanzanian cuisine while ensuring balanced nutrition. Special dietary requirements can also be accommodated upon request.
During their free time, volunteers have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a variety of cultural and recreational activities. They can explore Arusha town, visit local markets, and experience everyday Tanzanian life. Volunteers can also take part in cultural exchange activities with local people and children at the center.
Other popular activities include visiting nearby attractions such as waterfalls, coffee farms, hot springs, and local villages. Volunteers may also join weekend safaris to national parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire at an additional cost.
At the hostel, volunteers can enjoy social time with others, play games, share experiences, learn basic Swahili, or simply relax after a meaningful day of volunteering.
