About Us
Enghouse English Homestay is a shared-living community in Vietnam where Vietnamese members and international volunteers live, communicate, and learn from one another.
Our community was created to give Vietnamese students and young professionals a friendly environment in which they can become more confident using English in everyday life. Instead of focusing only on textbooks and formal lessons, we encourage natural communication through conversations, games, cultural discussions, shared meals, and community activities.
International volunteers become part of the Enghouse community rather than working as formal teachers. They share their language, culture, and experiences while also learning about Vietnamese traditions, food, and daily life from our local members. No teaching qualification is required, and volunteers are not expected to follow a formal curriculum or prepare academic lessons.
Our team helps organise the schedule and participates in the activities. We welcome volunteers’ ideas for conversation topics, games, cooking sessions, cultural presentations, and other interactive activities that allow everyone to learn together.
Enghouse currently has locations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Each volunteer stays at one agreed location, which will be confirmed before arrival. Our goal is to build an open, respectful, and multicultural home where local members and international visitors can develop genuine friendships and broaden their understanding of the world.

The activities are informal and social, with approximately 12 hours of participation per week across a maximum of five days. Volunteers have two full days off to explore, travel, or work remotely.
We provide free shared accommodation, clean bedding, and access to a shared kitchen with basic cooking equipment. Daily meals are not guaranteed, but our Vietnamese members often cook together and may voluntarily invite volunteers to join or share food.
Our team discusses the schedule, accommodation, and expectations clearly before confirming each stay. We value openness, mutual respect, cultural curiosity, and genuine two-way exchange.
Requirements
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and able to communicate confidently in English. No formal teaching qualification is required, but volunteers should be friendly, patient, sociable, and comfortable interacting with Vietnamese students and young professionals.
Participants must be able to commit to approximately 12 hours of activities per week, spread over a maximum of five days, and stay for at least two weeks. They should respect the agreed schedule, house rules, shared spaces, and other residents’ privacy.
Accommodation is provided in a shared room. Daily meals are not guaranteed, so volunteers should be prepared to manage their own food using the shared kitchen or nearby food options. There is a cat in the house, although it is not allowed in the volunteers’ bedrooms; anyone with a serious cat allergy should consider this before applying.
Volunteer experience
Volunteers have most of the day free to work remotely, explore the city, or relax. On an activity day, they join an agreed session lasting approximately 2–2.5 hours.
A typical session may include small-group English conversations, language games, discussions about travel and culture, movie or music activities, or sharing traditions from the volunteer’s home country. Volunteers may occasionally join community dinners, cooking activities, local outings, or special events.
The Enghouse team helps organise the schedule and introduces the activities. Volunteers are welcome to suggest topics or games, but they are not required to prepare formal lessons or follow a curriculum.
Activities total approximately 12 hours per week across a maximum of five days. Volunteers have two full days off, and the weekly schedule is discussed in advance.
The program is free. We do not charge volunteers any participation or accommodation fees.
Volunteers are responsible for their own meals, transportation, visa, travel insurance, and personal expenses.
Volunteers receive free accommodation in a clean and secure shared room at Enghouse. Each person is provided with their own bed, mattress, pillow, blanket, and clean bedding. The number of available places depends on current occupancy and will be confirmed before arrival.
Bathrooms, the kitchen, and common living areas are shared with other residents. Volunteers can use the shared kitchen and basic cooking equipment to prepare their own meals. Daily meals are not included, although Vietnamese members sometimes cook together and may voluntarily invite volunteers to join or share food.
There is a cat in the house that may spend time in the common areas but is not allowed inside the volunteers’ bedrooms. Before accepting a stay, we clearly confirm the location, room arrangements, available facilities, and house rules.
Daily meals are not formally provided. Volunteers should be prepared to organise and pay for their own food.
A shared kitchen and basic cooking equipment are available for volunteers who wish to prepare their own meals. Affordable restaurants, markets, and convenience stores can also be found nearby.
Our Vietnamese members often cook together and may voluntarily invite volunteers to join them or share food. These meals are a friendly part of community life, but they are optional and cannot be guaranteed every day. Volunteers with allergies or special dietary requirements should inform us before arrival and remain responsible for managing their dietary needs.
Volunteers have two full days off each week and plenty of free time outside the agreed activity schedule.
Depending on their placement, they can explore Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, visit museums and historical attractions, walk around local neighbourhoods, discover cafés and markets, try Vietnamese street food, or attend local events. Our Vietnamese members are happy to recommend interesting and affordable places from a local perspective.
Public buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services make it easy to travel around the city. Volunteers can also use their days off for independent trips to nearby destinations. All personal outings and trips are optional and organised at the volunteer’s own expense.
