Marine Conservation

🏢 Hosted by Blue Heart Bali · 👤 Min age 18 years

About Us

Blue Heart Bali is a 100% locally led, grassroots non-profit organization based on the peaceful northeast coast of Bali, in the traditional fishing village of Tianyar. Our mission is to restore damaged marine ecosystems while empowering the local community through education, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.

Years of unsustainable fishing, coral harvesting, and plastic pollution severely damaged the area's coral reefs. In response, we build and deploy artificial reef structures to restore marine habitats, protect biodiversity, and support sea turtle conservation efforts.

Alongside our environmental work, we run free community learning programs for local children, where volunteers assist with English lessons, creative arts, and environmental education. By living and working alongside local fishermen and villagers at our beachfront volunteer camp, Boo Boo House, volunteers experience authentic Balinese culture away from mass tourism while making a meaningful and lasting impact on both the community and the marine environment.

Why choose us?

Blue Heart Bali offers a truly authentic volunteer experience where every contribution creates a direct and lasting impact. As a 100% community-driven, locally led non-profit, volunteer fees directly support marine conservation projects and free educational programs for local children.

Volunteers stay at Boo Boo House, our beachfront volunteer camp on the peaceful coast of Tianyar, enjoying three home-cooked meals each weekday (Monday to Friday) and regular community gatherings. We also fully sponsor and manage the official C6 Volunteering Visa process, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience for international volunteers.

The program combines hands-on marine conservation—including building and deploying artificial reefs—with environmental education, beach clean-ups, and community engagement. Located away from Bali's busy tourist areas, volunteers experience authentic village life while enjoying stunning views of Mount Agung, pristine coastline, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

Requirements

To join the program, volunteers should meet the following requirements:

- Visa: Obtain an official C6 Volunteering Visa before arrival. The visa is fully sponsored and arranged by the Blue Heart Bali team.

- Mindset & Adaptability: Be open-minded, respectful of Balinese culture and traditions (including modest dress outside the volunteer camp), and willing to participate in hands-on community work.

- Skills: No specific qualifications are required. A passion for marine conservation, teaching, or community engagement is all you need. A PADI Open Water certification is optional but recommended for volunteers who wish to participate in underwater reef deployment dives.

- Health: Have a basic level of physical fitness suitable for outdoor beach and conservation activities.

- Program Contribution Fee: As a self-funded non-profit organization, a weekly contribution fee applies to cover beachfront accommodation, three meals per day (Monday–Friday), project materials, unlimited tank refills, and airport pickup.
