New Hope Waves empowers young people through practical skills, essential knowledge, and access to meaningful opportunities. Its work focuses on educational support, vocational training, healthcare, socioeconomic assistance, and talent development through sustainable initiatives. Together, these programs help improve living conditions and create healthier, brighter futures for young people and their communities.
Since its inception in 2009, New Hope Waves has served as a source of hope and support for vulnerable youth. The organization was founded by Auldridge Chibbwalu, who grew up in Maramba and overcame significant personal challenges. With the support of Swedish sponsors, he completed his education and participated in cultural exchange programs in Europe. Inspired by these opportunities, he dedicated himself to empowering other young people facing similar hardships. New Hope Waves was officially registered in 2015, strengthening its long-term commitment to youth development and community empowerment.

Requirements
Staying Healthy in Zambia:
To help you stay healthy during your stay, it is recommended to eat freshly cooked food and fruits that have been washed with purified water or peeled. Livingstone is a popular tourist destination, and most restaurants and cafés maintain high standards of food hygiene. However, it is advisable to avoid street food and use your best judgment when choosing where to eat.
Always drink bottled or purified water. It is also a good idea to bring a basic medical kit containing items such as pain relievers, bandages, tissues, and medication for stomach upsets or diarrhea. Some travelers also consult their doctor about carrying prescription antibiotics, if appropriate, before traveling.

Volunteer experience
Our school supports more than 178 children, aged 4 to 15, from some of the most underprivileged communities in Livingstone, including Ngwenya, Namatama, Zecco, Malota, Burton, Highlands, Maramba, and Libuyu. Many of these children come from families who cannot afford government or private school fees due to financial hardship. By providing affordable, nearly free education, we help ensure that children have the opportunity to learn, develop essential literacy and numeracy skills, and progress to higher levels of education.
As a volunteer, you will assist local teachers in delivering lessons in subjects such as English, Mathematics, Arts, and other creative activities. Volunteers work alongside experienced local teachers to support students in a positive and engaging learning environment.
Volunteers may choose to work with preschool classes or teach students from Grades 1 to 7, depending on their interests and the school's needs. Students have a range of ages, learning abilities, and educational backgrounds, making the experience both rewarding and diverse.
The school operates Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, leaving afternoons and weekends free for personal activities, relaxation, or exploring the local area.
The program fee is US$10 per day or US$300 per month. This includes accommodation in a rented volunteer house arranged by the organization, as well as meals provided throughout your stay.
Volunteers stay in a rented volunteer house, which may be shared with other international volunteers. Local staff also live and work at the house, providing support and assistance throughout your stay.
Accommodation consists of shared, same-gender bedrooms with bunk beds, shared bathrooms, and a communal kitchen equipped with basic cooking utensils, including plates, pots, and a stove. The house also has a shared living room with seating and a TV.
Please note that volunteers are responsible for purchasing their own food. There is no washing machine, so laundry is done by hand.
Accommodation fees must be paid in cash upon arrival, as agreed. These fees contribute to the house rental and utility costs, including electricity, running water for bathing, cooking, washing, and toilet facilities. Tap water is not safe for drinking, so bottled water should be purchased from local supermarkets. The organization rents the accommodation and does not own the property.
Meals are provided by the organization throughout your stay.
During your stay, you will have the opportunity to interact with local young people, build meaningful connections, and make lifelong friendships.
In your free time, you can explore the natural beauty of Zambia, including the world-famous Victoria Falls, located just 10 km away. Other nearby attractions include museums, local markets, churches, wildlife parks, and a variety of sightseeing opportunities.
For shopping, cafés, and restaurants, Musi-oa-Tunya Square Shopping Mall and Livingstone city center are easily accessible by local taxi, bus, or on foot.
