About Us
PSD Nepal (Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal) is a registered non-profit organization established in 2002, with more than two decades of experience implementing programs in education, environmental conservation, public health, youth empowerment, and community development across Nepal. We work closely with local schools, communities, government agencies, and international partners to create sustainable opportunities that improve lives while promoting cultural exchange.
Our Teaching & Education Volunteer Program provides international volunteers with the opportunity to support quality education in both urban and rural schools. Volunteers work alongside local teachers—not as replacements, but as additional support—to enrich classroom learning through interactive teaching methods, conversational English practice, creative activities, sports, environmental education, health awareness, storytelling, school gardening, and extracurricular activities.
Many schools in Nepal have dedicated teachers but limited educational resources and few opportunities for students to interact with international volunteers. By sharing your knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm, you can help students build confidence, improve their communication skills, and develop curiosity while learning about different cultures.
Volunteer placements are carefully matched based on community needs and volunteers' interests. Opportunities are available in Kathmandu Valley, Gorkha, Dolakha, Chitwan, Ramechhap, and other partner communities.

Every placement begins with a comprehensive orientation, cultural guidance, and ongoing support from our experienced local team.
Volunteers enjoy an authentic cultural experience through accommodation with host families or in volunteer houses while experiencing Nepali cuisine, local traditions, festivals, language, and everyday community life. Requirements
No previous teaching experience is required. We welcome volunteers from diverse educational and professional backgrounds who are enthusiastic about working with children and supporting education.
Volunteers should:
- Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Respect local culture and community values.
- Be patient, flexible, and adaptable.
- Have basic conversational English skills.
- Enjoy working with children and young people.
- Follow the guidance of local teachers and PSD Nepal staff.
- Be physically able to participate in daily school and community activities.
Teaching qualifications, TESOL/TEFL certification, or previous education-related experience are welcome but not required. Volunteers staying for longer periods or working closely with children may be asked to provide a police clearance or background check.
Volunteer experience
Each day varies depending on your placement and the school's schedule. After breakfast, volunteers travel to their partner school and begin classroom activities alongside local teachers. You may assist with English conversation, mathematics, science, reading, arts and crafts, storytelling, music, sports, environmental education, school gardening, or health and hygiene awareness sessions.
Lunch is usually shared with teachers, students, or your host family. Afternoon activities may include extracurricular clubs, lesson preparation, community interaction, educational games, or cultural exchange activities. Evenings are free to relax, explore the local community, learn basic Nepali, spend time with your host family, or participate in cultural activities organized by PSD Nepal. Every placement is unique, allowing volunteers to contribute according to their skills while responding to the needs of the school and community.
The program fee covers accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation, local staff support, volunteer coordination, administration, and contributions toward community project implementation.

Volunteers stay with carefully selected local host families or in shared volunteer accommodation, depending on their placement location. Rooms are clean, safe, and comfortable, and are usually shared with another volunteer of the same gender unless private accommodation has been arranged. Basic facilities include a bed, mattress, pillow, blankets, electricity, and access to bathroom facilities. Wi-Fi is available in most urban placements, while internet access in rural communities may be limited.
Staying with a host family offers an authentic cultural experience, giving volunteers the opportunity to experience Nepali traditions, daily life, local cuisine, and customs while becoming part of the community.
Three freshly prepared meals are provided each day throughout your placement. Meals typically include traditional Nepali dishes such as Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables, and curry), chapati, noodles, seasonal vegetables, eggs, fruit, and tea. Safe drinking water is also provided.
Vegetarian meals are always available, and vegan, gluten-free, or other dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice. Sharing meals with your host family or fellow volunteers is a great opportunity to experience Nepali hospitality and culture.
During evenings and weekends, volunteers have plenty of opportunities to experience Nepal's rich culture and breathtaking landscapes. PSD Nepal staff are happy to help volunteers plan weekend trips and recommend safe, responsible travel options throughout the country.

- Exploring UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu
- Visiting temples, monasteries, and local markets
- Hiking in nearby hills
- Short treks and mountain viewpoints
- Yoga and meditation
- Learning basic Nepali
- Participating in local festivals and cultural events
- Traditional cooking experiences
- Visiting villages and community projects
- Wildlife safaris in Chitwan National Park
- Adventure activities such as rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding, and zip-lining
- Traveling to Pokhara, Lumbini, and other destinations after your placement
