About Us

Our dream is simple: to help villages become places where people can build meaningful lives without having to leave their homes in search of opportunities. We believe that when education, traditional skills, sustainable livelihoods, and a strong sense of community come together, rural villages can thrive for generations.

Over the years, that dream has grown into a living community. Today, Shri Timli brings together women artisans, farmers, children, educators, volunteers, and changemakers who share a common purpose—to preserve what is valuable from the past while creating opportunities for the future. Volunteers become part of this community, bringing new ideas, skills, stories, and perspectives while gaining experiences that cannot be found in guidebooks or tourist destinations.

Every day is different because village life is wonderfully unpredictable. You might help local women weave handwoven shawls on traditional looms, plant vegetables, document village life through photography, teach English or digital skills, improve our website, or simply share conversations over chai with our neighbours.

Life here is simple. We wake up to birdsong and mountain views, enjoy home-cooked meals prepared with local ingredients, work alongside villagers, and spend evenings sharing stories under clear Himalayan skies. There is no rush, no city noise, and very little distraction—just an opportunity to reconnect with nature, people, and yourself.

Whether you're an artist, teacher, filmmaker, designer, engineer, gardener, writer, student, or simply someone curious about rural life, there is always a place for you here. You don't need to be highly skilled; what matters most is kindness, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.

Why choose us?

Shri Timli offers more than a volunteering experience—it offers the opportunity to become part of a living Himalayan community. Here, you'll work alongside local artisans, farmers, educators, and families on projects that create lasting social impact while preserving local culture and nature.

Unlike many volunteer programmes, you'll experience authentic village life, enjoy home-cooked local meals, and contribute based on your own skills and interests. Whether you're passionate about education, farming, storytelling, technology, handloom weaving, sustainability, or community development, your work will have a real purpose.

In return, you'll gain meaningful friendships, practical experience, a deeper understanding of rural India, and memories that will stay with you long after you leave. Come with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a desire to make a difference—you'll leave with far more than you came for.

No two days at Shri Timli are exactly the same, but life follows a relaxed rhythm inspired by the village and the changing seasons.

A typical day begins with a simple breakfast and a discussion about the day's activities. Depending on your interests and the needs of the community, you might spend the morning working on the farm, supporting our handloom centre, assisting with educational activities, creating digital content, contributing to community projects, or sharing your own skills.

Lunch is enjoyed together, followed by some time to rest. In the afternoon, project work continues or the team explores new ideas and initiatives. Evenings are relaxed—you can take a walk through the village, enjoy the mountain views, chat with local families, play games with children, or simply unwind with a cup of chai.

Volunteers typically contribute around 4–5 hours per day, five days a week, leaving plenty of free time to explore the Himalayas, experience local culture, and enjoy village life.
