About Us
VolNepal's international internship programs are designed to provide transformative learning experiences that bridge academic knowledge with real-world practice. Rather than simply observing, interns become active members of local organizations, working alongside experienced professionals while gaining valuable industry exposure in a diverse cultural setting.
Internships are available in fields such as healthcare, hospitality, education, social development, nonprofit management, environmental sustainability, and community development. Participants develop practical skills through meaningful responsibilities, collaborative projects, and day-to-day workplace experiences while making a positive contribution to local communities.
Beyond professional development, interns immerse themselves in Nepal's rich culture, traditions, and way of life. Living within local communities provides opportunities to build genuine relationships, strengthen cross-cultural communication, and gain a broader global perspective. Each placement encourages creativity, adaptability, leadership, and problem-solving while helping interns understand the social and economic challenges faced by developing communities.
Supported by experienced local mentors and the VolNepal team, interns receive guidance throughout their placement to ensure a rewarding and impactful experience. Whether seeking academic credit, career exploration, professional networking, or international work experience, VolNepal offers internships that enhance participants' resumes while fostering confidence, cultural awareness, and personal growth.
More than just an internship, it is a life-changing journey that equips participants with practical experience, lifelong friendships, and the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Volunteer experience
A typical internship day begins with breakfast, followed by travel to your placement site. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll spend approximately 6–8 hours engaged in meaningful tasks, meetings, observations, and hands-on projects relevant to your field of study. Depending on your placement, you may assist healthcare staff, support hospitality operations, contribute to NGO initiatives, participate in community development projects, or work on administrative and research assignments.
Lunch is usually taken with colleagues or at the workplace, providing an opportunity to build professional relationships and experience the local work culture. Throughout the day, you'll receive guidance and feedback from your supervisor while developing practical skills and industry knowledge.
Evenings are free to relax, reflect on your learning, explore the local community, or participate in cultural activities, Nepali language lessons, and weekend excursions. Every day combines professional development, cultural immersion, and personal growth, creating a well-rounded international internship experience.
US$900 for the first 2 weeks, plus US$300 for each additional week.
Interns stay in a welcoming homestay with a local family or in a shared volunteer house, providing a safe, comfortable, and culturally immersive living experience. Accommodation is shared with participants of the same sex, encouraging friendships with fellow international interns and volunteers.
Two freshly prepared meals are provided daily, typically breakfast and dinner, featuring authentic Nepali cuisine with vegetarian options available. Lunch can be purchased near the internship placement or workplace. Basic amenities, including a furnished shared bedroom, shared bathroom, Wi-Fi (where available), and laundry facilities, are provided.
Living with local families or fellow participants offers a unique opportunity to experience Nepali culture, practice the local language, and build meaningful connections beyond the workplace.
Breakfast and Dinner
Outside your internship, Nepal offers endless opportunities to explore, relax, and immerse yourself in local culture. You can visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wander through vibrant local markets, enjoy traditional Nepali cuisine, attend cultural festivals, or join Nepali language classes. Adventure enthusiasts can go hiking, trekking, mountain biking, paragliding, rafting, or take weekend trips to destinations such as Pokhara, Chitwan National Park, Nagarkot, or the Himalayan foothills.
Evenings can be spent socializing with fellow interns and volunteers, relaxing at local cafés, practicing yoga, or participating in community events. These activities complement your internship by providing a deeper understanding of Nepal's culture, history, and natural beauty while creating unforgettable memories and lasting friendships.
