About Us
Kilimanjaro Volunteers Exposure (which we shorten to KiVolEx), is a Volunteer organization based in Tanzania.
We are a non-profit organization, aimed at improving the lives of all those in need in the local community. Specifically, we work with underprivileged groups such as women and children through providing the needed healthcare and services from our Volunteers. Established to bring Western enthusiasm, expertise and passion to tackling some of the problems which affect the most needy in Tanzania. Our ethos is that you’ll be volunteering with us, not for us. We’re far more interested in your skills and desire to help than your money.
In Tanzania, KiVolEx is run by a group of experienced social workers and doctors who have seen the difference passionate Volunteers can make to people’s lives. We have support in the UK in the form of previous Volunteers, who handle the recruitment and support of new Volunteers before they fly out to begin project work.

Volunteer experience
In general, expect to work 4–6 hours per day. Volunteers usually wake up early, around 7 or 8, and have breakfast. After breakfast, the workday begins, usually between 8 and 10 AM.
There is lunch in the middle of the day, around 12 PM. The workday usually ends around 2 or 3 PM.
Although you are expected to be at your placement every weekday, the rest of your time in Tanzania is free for you to decide how to use it.
Your daily schedule may also change, so you need to be flexible and ready to adjust.
USD $35.
Stay Home
Life is simple, but all homes have electricity and running water, so volunteers can stay in a safe and secure home (some lodges may occasionally be without electricity or water during a drought). All homes are carefully inspected by local staff, and safety checks are carried out regularly. Many volunteers enjoy the welcoming family atmosphere and feel that their stay gives them a real Tanzanian experience.
Dedicated House
The Volunteer House is a western-style bungalow with 6 rooms (all with bunk beds). There are two bathrooms with western toilets and sometimes a fireplace. The house includes a double bedroom, usually reserved for couples. The house is safe, with guards and secure doors. Chefs work in the Volunteer House and prepare food for volunteers.
(Note that the Volunteer House has very limited space and can accommodate only 18–24 people.)
Provides two meals a day. Breakfast usually includes tea, toast, cereals, fruit, and mandazi (fried dough). At dinner, meat and vegetables are often served alongside traditional dishes such as Ugali, Chapati, Sukuma Wiki (greens), and Irio.
KIVOLEX encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Time away from volunteer work is free for you to decide how to spend. You can enjoy local culture, relax in the community, or explore Tanzania during weekends. Long weekends may include game drives or trips to Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Kenya, and Uganda. Volunteers can also join local activities, visit children’s organizations, and spend time playing with children.
Tanzania offers many adventures. You can go on safari in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, famous for wildlife, or relax on Zanzibar’s white sandy beaches and clear blue water. Activities include swimming with dolphins, diving, spearfishing, and relaxing under palm trees.
For more adventure, Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, is nearby. It is a challenging but unforgettable experience for those who wish to climb it.
