About Us
Restore Nature Uganda is a community-based environmental organization based in Uganda. Our mission is to restore degraded landscapes, combat climate change, and improve livelihoods through tree planting, environmental education, sustainable agriculture, and community empowerment.
We work closely with schools, local communities, women, and young people to create greener and healthier environments. Volunteers become part of our daily activities, helping to plant trees, establish school gardens, teach environmental awareness, support community outreach, and assist with creative projects such as photography, social media, fundraising, and documentation.
Life with us offers a genuine cultural exchange. Volunteers stay in a welcoming community, where they experience Ugandan culture, enjoy local food, and take part in everyday village life while making a meaningful contribution to environmental conservation.

Requirements
We welcome enthusiastic, open-minded, and respectful volunteers from all backgrounds. No previous experience is required for most activities, although skills in education, agriculture, photography, social media, fundraising, construction, or environmental conservation are appreciated.
Volunteers should have a positive attitude, be willing to work as part of a team, respect local culture and community values, and be comfortable living in a rural environment. A basic level of English is helpful for effective communication. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum stay of two weeks to make a meaningful contribution to our projects.
Volunteer experience
A typical day begins with breakfast at around 8:00 a.m., followed by a short team meeting to plan the day's activities. Volunteers usually work from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., take a lunch break, and then continue working from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Activities vary depending on the season and may include tree planting, caring for tree nurseries, providing environmental education in schools, conducting community outreach, practicing organic farming, documenting projects, or assisting with social media and fundraising. Evenings are free for relaxation, interacting with the local community, engaging in cultural exchange, or preparing for the next day's activities. Weekends are generally free for sightseeing or personal travel.
$10 Per Day, $70 Per Week
Volunteers stay in simple, clean, and safe accommodation within or near our project site. Rooms may be shared with other volunteers of the same gender or provided as private rooms when available. Each bed is equipped with a mattress, a mosquito net, and bed linens, and volunteers have access to shared bathrooms with running water. Electricity is available, although occasional power outages may occur. Staying with us offers a genuine experience of rural Ugandan life while ensuring that volunteers are comfortable and feel welcomed as part of our community.
Three home-cooked meals are provided each day. Meals typically include local Ugandan dishes such as rice, matooke, sweet potatoes, beans, vegetables, groundnut sauce, eggs, chicken, and seasonal fruits. Safe drinking water is always available. We do our best to accommodate vegetarian diets and other dietary requirements if we are informed before your arrival.
During your free time, you can explore local villages, visit nearby markets, enjoy traditional Ugandan cuisine, hike in the surrounding hills, participate in cultural events, play sports with local youth, or simply relax with members of the community. On weekends, volunteers can also arrange trips to national parks, waterfalls, lakes, coffee farms, or other attractions across Uganda, including white-water rafting on the Nile. We are happy to recommend places to visit and assist with organizing local excursions.
