About Us

We, Volunteer International Adventures, are a passionate, hands-on organisation based in Africa, with a dedicated team creating meaningful volunteer experiences since 2008. We welcome students, travellers, families, friends, gappers, and career breakers to join our ethical projects in South Africa, Zambia, Zanzibar, and Zimbabwe, focusing on animal and youth projects.

We believe in responsible and inclusive volunteer travel, offering opportunities that not only support important projects but also allow volunteers to fully immerse themselves in the local culture, build real connections, and create lifelong memories.

Our local teams are committed to your journey by ensuring your safety, supporting your personal growth, and guiding you every step of the way so you can focus on making a genuine difference where it is needed most.

Volunteers in our Knysna projects can contribute in areas such as veterinary medicine, animal care, youth development, social work, teaching, early childhood care, sports coaching, and community development with NPOs.

The Knysna volunteer accommodation is shared with volunteers from other Knysna-based projects. This self-catering cottage is within walking distance of Knysna’s town center, providing easy access to shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, nightlife, entertainment, and essential services.

Accommodation options include shared or single rooms, depending on volunteer numbers. The cottage has shared bathrooms, a satellite TV, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and a fully equipped kitchen with an indoor dining area.

For outdoor relaxation, there is a braai (BBQ) area, picnic space, and a swimming pool for the summer months. Linen and towels are provided, and a cleaner visits once a week, though volunteers are expected to clean up after themselves.

Couples, friends, and families are welcome, with accommodation available for different group sizes. If the volunteer cottage is full, other comfortable self-catering options within walking distance of the town center are available.

As a volunteer in Knysna, you will receive a food allowance to cover your basic grocery needs for self-prepared meals. During your induction, you will be taken on a grocery shopping trip to help choose foods that meet your dietary preferences and requirements.

Knysna has several grocery stores, as well as a variety of restaurants and takeaways for days when you prefer not to cook. The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction plate, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, and grill for your convenience.

Volunteers are responsible for cleaning up after preparing meals and helping maintain a tidy living space.

Knysna is a breathtaking coastal gem in South Africa, known for its sandy beaches, stunning lagoon, lush indigenous forests, and the iconic Knysna Heads. It offers a charming atmosphere, rich marine life, and diverse local culture, making it a great destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those interested in a Knysna volunteer project.

Beyond its natural beauty, Knysna is an ideal place to volunteer. Its scenic landscapes range from estuaries and forests to a vast coastline, and it is close to local markets, hiking trails, wildlife reserves, animal sanctuaries, and welcoming locals who make visitors feel at home.
