For over 30 years, the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society (SLWCS) has worked to protect Sri Lanka’s extraordinary wildlife and natural landscapes while helping people and wildlife thrive together. Our work is built on a simple belief: lasting conservation is only possible when local communities are part of the solution. Rather than focusing on wildlife in isolation, SLWCS places communities at the heart of its research and conservation efforts. We work to understand the challenges facing both people and wildlife, develop practical solutions to human-wildlife conflict, protect biodiversity, and create opportunities that benefit local communities. Our mission is to help communities balance ecosystem protection with economic development by pioneering innovative and sustainable solutions for wildlife conservation. Through research, education, community engagement, and field-based initiatives, we strive to create a future where people and wildlife can coexist. SLWCS programs provide tangible benefits to local communities, including employment opportunities and support for sustainable livelihoods. By involving local people directly in conservation, we encourage responsible stewardship of natural resources and strengthen the long-term sustainability of our work. Volunteers and conservation enthusiasts from around the world also play an important role. By participating in meaningful fieldwork, they directly support our research, conservation, and community initiatives while gaining an immersive understanding of wildlife conservation in action. Over three decades, our award-winning work has gained international recognition. Yet our greatest impact can be seen in the landscapes, wildlife, and communities we work alongside every day. Protecting wildlife. Empowering communities. Creating lasting coexistence.

Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary (KSES) is a non-profit foundation working alongside Karen communities in Northern Thailand to support elephant welfare, sustainable livelihoods and the protection of the forests they depend on. Our elephants live in the forest, where they are able to move, forage, socialise and rest according to their own rhythms. Our approach prioritises autonomy, space and natural behaviour. Visitors do not touch, feed, bathe or ride the elephants. Instead, they hike through the forest and observe them from a respectful distance, learning to appreciate elephants as individuals with their own needs, relationships and behaviours. Alongside our elephant welfare work, we contribute to behavioural research, community initiatives, environmental projects and education. We work closely with the local Karen community, recognising and valuing the knowledge, experience and long-standing relationships that exist within the community. Our work is based on collaboration, with initiatives developed alongside the people who live and work here. KSES is a small organisation, and collaboration is at the heart of what we do. Our visitors, interns, mahouts, community members, researchers and partner organisations all contribute to the work we share: supporting elephant welfare, community life and the forest environment in ways that are respectful of the people and place at the heart of KSES.

The Livingseas Coral Restoration Site is the largest project of its kind in Bali, covering more than 9,000 m² and comprising over 9,200 reef structures. Led by the Livingseas Foundation and managed by Livingseas Asia, the initiative aims to restore 5 hectares (50,000 m²) of coral reef habitat stretching from Padangbai to Amuk Bay. Coral reef restoration is at the heart of our mission. Since 2019, Livingseas has been leading one of Indonesia's largest coral restoration initiatives off the coast of Padangbai, a traditional fishing village in northeastern Bali. This ambitious project continues to expand, making a significant contribution to marine conservation while helping restore vital reef ecosystems. Livingseas has earned international recognition for its work, including the prestigious Blue Water Heroes Award presented by Dr. Sylvia Earle. Our founder, Leon, has also delivered a TEDx talk in Singapore and has been featured by the Coral Restoration Consortium (CRC) for his contributions to coral restoration and marine conservation. Beyond reef restoration, Livingseas is committed to inspiring and training the next generation of marine scientists, conservationists, and ocean advocates. Through our Restoration & Research Internships, marine conservation placements, ecotourism internships, and volunteer programmes, participants gain practical, hands-on experience in reef restoration, scientific research, and environmental conservation while developing the skills needed to help protect marine ecosystems around the world.

Blue Heart Bali is a 100% locally led, grassroots non-profit organization based on the peaceful northeast coast of Bali, in the traditional fishing village of Tianyar. Our mission is to restore damaged marine ecosystems while empowering the local community through education, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development. Years of unsustainable fishing, coral harvesting, and plastic pollution severely damaged the area's coral reefs. In response, we build and deploy artificial reef structures to restore marine habitats, protect biodiversity, and support sea turtle conservation efforts. Alongside our environmental work, we run free community learning programs for local children, where volunteers assist with English lessons, creative arts, and environmental education. By living and working alongside local fishermen and villagers at our beachfront volunteer camp, Boo Boo House, volunteers experience authentic Balinese culture away from mass tourism while making a meaningful and lasting impact on both the community and the marine environment.

PSD Nepal (Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal) is a registered non-profit organization established in 2002, working across education, environmental conservation, public health, climate action, and sustainable community development. Through partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and international organizations, PSD Nepal develops practical solutions to some of Nepal's most pressing environmental challenges. Our Himalayan Plastic Recycling & Upcycling Volunteer Program is one of Nepal's pioneering community-based environmental initiatives. The program addresses the growing challenge of plastic pollution in the Himalayan region by promoting waste collection, segregation, recycling, upcycling, environmental education, and community participation. Volunteers work alongside local communities, recycling partners, schools, and environmental organizations to help strengthen sustainable waste management systems rather than simply conducting one-time clean-up campaigns. Activities may include plastic collection drives, supporting recycling centers, upcycling plastic into useful products, delivering environmental awareness sessions, documenting project activities, and promoting responsible tourism. A key component of this initiative is PSD Nepal's Himalayan Plastic Removal Project in the Langtang region, where plastic waste is collected, sorted, and transported for recycling while creating local income opportunities and increasing environmental awareness within mountain communities. Whether you are passionate about sustainability, environmental conservation, climate action, or simply want to make a meaningful difference, this program offers practical, hands-on experience while helping protect one of the world's most fragile mountain ecosystems.
